My fellow grad student and good friend Katie Tipton is creating a database of archaeological sites on private land and of private artifact collections in the region. Below is an introduction to the project and the link where you can find her website. This database will be a tremendous resource for anyone interested in the archaeology and history of our area!
From Katie:
Archaeological sites in the Portland area exist predominately on private land, which means that members of the public are important sources of information about the area’s archaeology. The overall goal of the project is to establish a systematic process for collecting and investigating information about both archaeological sites on private land and collections in private hands throughout the Portland area. My thesis research will build mutual professional-public understanding of local heritage and begin to establish a process for sharing and investigating publicly reported archaeological information.
